Free From The Confines of the Six Sense Organs

This sounds absolutely crazy! What does this mean?

In simple terms, the mind - along with the conditions of the world - has created itself a thought/feeling space in which it holds itself captive. In that holding pattern - which consists of many dualistic sub-personalities - it tries to fulfil its ever-increasing need for freedom, but only does so from the perspective of a sensory world. This creates neurosis, which is energized by a fundamental core restlessness.

All the behaviours that stem from your understanding of yourself are an attempt to reconcile with this inner core of restlessness, but this reconciliation can only happen in reference to sensory objects, thus an endless cycle of self-fixing persists. The mind comes full circle, trapping itself in a perpetual state of neurosis, confusion, fear, and anxiety.

Therefore, the entirety of life is experienced within the boundaries of the six sense organs, and this is called holding yourself captive. It is how you confine yourself to the six sense organs and what they perceive.

What then lies beyond the six sense organs? What then lies beyond what the six sense organs perceive, beyond perception itself?

In the Zen tradition, there is a question that is often posed for reflecting upon this very conundrum:

What was your true face, the face you had before your parents were born?

Find that, and you're free.
