Spirituality - Another Social Matrix?

Spirituality should be concerned with a major and fundamental shift in identity, alongside all social positions, including that of being a Buddhist, a Christian, or a non-duel seeker. On that precarious note, and with the falling away of that identity, spirituality can be a bloody mess!

At a certain juncture, the very notion of spirituality and the identities formed in those environments can be brutally challenged, but for many, the fear of letting those glorious identities go is too great.

Every last essence of a sense of self, no matter how glorified it looks, is obliterated and torn asunder. What remains is entirely unfathomable and unknowable - a complete timeless mystery!

Iā€™m reminded of the Zen saying which follows below and encompasses the sheer dynamism - and paradoxically - the sheer simplicity of spirituality in nine simple words (perhaps even nine words is overstretching in Zen terms!).

Take it as a disclaimer, intrigue and a motivator all rolled together in a neat little package and if you want to incorporate some Eastern atmospherics, try reciting the quote with a stern Chinese accent.

Better to not begin. Once begin, better to finish!
