Massive Attack - Embracing Inner Darkness
It was one summer, sitting on a bench in the town centre, the cranium walls shuddered with demonic banging noises: skeletons, ghouls, and hell warders coalesce, momentarily abide then fragment into a kaleidoscopic whirlpool disappearing into blackness. Unsettling images of abhorrent sexual acts and murderous actions follow in quick succession. I see myself in war driving a sword through the heart of a terrified man, kicking aside crying children, and raping screaming women. My whole body vibrates with the suffering of previous deeds.
I look at the consumers oblivious to my inner plight, indulged in their sensory pleasures, licking ice cream, eating chips, and carrying freshly bought items of clothing. They laugh and smile, but I know it's all a feeble attempt to avoid their own minds. For those people, ignorance is surely blissful.
Not content with my current level of inner turmoil, a seagull shits on my head. The ignorant shoppers break from their sensuous jamboree and garnish my position with half-suppressed smirks. I pull out my phone and place my headphones in my ears. Bird shit slowly slips down my head as I press the play button...
